What we Believe

The Bible

The Bible is the infallible Word of God and the authority for salvation and Christian living. (See 2 Timothy 3:15-17).

About God

There is one God, who has revealed Himself as Father; through His Son, in redemption; and as the Holy Spirit, by emanation. Jesus Christ is God manifested in flesh. He is both God and man. (See Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 3:16)

About Sin and Salvation

Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. Salvation comes by grace through faith based on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (See Romans 3:23-25; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9.)

About the gospel

The saving gospel is the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. We obey the gospel (II Thessalonians 1:8; I Peter 4:17) by repentance (death to sin), water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (burial), and the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance (resurrection). (See I Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:4, 37-39; Romans 6:3-4.)

About christian living

As Christians, we are to love God and others. We should live a holy life inwardly and outwardly and worship God joyfully. The supernatural gifts of the Spirit, including healing, are for the church today. (See Mark 12:28-31; II Corinthians 7:1; Hebrews 12:14; I Corinthians 12:8-10.)

About the Future

Jesus Christ is coming again to catch away His church. In the end will be the final resurrection and the final judgment. The righteous will inherit eternal life, and the unrighteous eternal death. (See I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:11-15.)

About US

It all began in the late 1940’s

In a small house on Paul Street.  A group of prayer warriors gathered together and prayed for God to pour out His Spirit in their community.  Out of prayer, a church was born.  The first pastor was a lady of faith.

During the 1950’s

This group of believers moved to Massachusetts Avenue and became Brentwood United Pentecostal Church. Bro. Thomas Peavy was elected as pastor during these early years.  After several years of pastoring this flock, Bro. Peavy felt his call to move elsewhere, and the church elected Bro. John Barber to assume the position.

In 1961

Bro. Barber and a group of men from the church built a new facility at 5416 Sun Valley Drive.  Brentwood became the first “Jesus Name” church in that area and remained at that location until October of 2011.

Following Bro. Barber’s retirement, after some twenty years of pastoring, several other ministers came and served the congregation.  However, after a time, Bro. Peavy once again came to pastor Brentwood and remained as pastor until his retirement in 1990.

August 5, 1990

Bro. Jimmy Mitchell began serving Brentwood as their newly elected pastor.  In 1992 the vision of a future building was expressed and the years of working and saving began for “one day”.

In 2000

Property was purchased at 6720 Mobile Highway. In 2006, the mortgage was burned.  On October 6, 2011, the congregation of Brentwood United Pentecostal Church enjoyed the fulfillment of their vision by holding their first service in their new home.

We dedicated Apostolic Life to those past, present, and future; who dreamed, caught the vision, and worked so hard to make this day a reality.  We indeed, celebrate the Apostolic Life!

Today

We believe that everyone has a place at Apostolic Life!  Our church is full of people who have made mistakes in the past. Come join us and find your place to belong!

Our Mission & Vision

Our Mission

REACH + TEACH + CONNECT = IMPACT

Our mission is to Reach the lost; Teach disciples; Connect disciples to the Body of Christ; and Impact our world.

Our vision is to be a 21st Century Apostolic church that teaches and operates in the fullness and power of God’s Word accompanied with the demonstration of the Holy Ghost. We are to heal the broken-hearted, raise up the sick, deliver the captives, recover sight to the blind, and worship in Spirit and in Truth.

Our Beliefs & Values

What we believe

Apostolic Life  is founded on the first church birthed in the Book of Acts. We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God.

We believe there is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4). He is the creator of heaven and earth. He has revealed Himself as the Father (Creator), as the Son (Savior), and as the Holy Ghost (indwelling Spirit).

We believe in water baptism by immersion in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. Through baptism we identify with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

We believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking in other tongues. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4

We believe in the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Ghost. God ministers to His people through tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy; words of knowledge and wisdom, discerning of spirits, faith, working of miracles, and healings. Mark 16:15-18, Acts 5:16:2, 2 Corinthians 12:1-11
